In today’s fast-changing office environment, knowing the right type of Ink and supplies to purchase can be a headache. Questions such as what Ink should I buy and how much Ink do I need can often be overwhelming. DEC Office Solutions, of Garfield New Jersey, is here to help you get the answers you need.

Ink serves a number of functions in the office, such as printing documents, labeling supplies, printing logos on business cards, and creating more vibrant photographs. To make sure you are purchasing the right Ink for your office, here are some of the most frequently asked questions.

Does Printer Ink Expire?

Printer Ink does not expire in most cases. Since Printer Ink is liquid, it can sometimes separate over time. To prevent this from happening, ensure it is stored in a cool, dry place away from sources of high heat and sunlight.

What Is Dye Based Ink?

Dye-based inks, also known as dye sublimation inks, are composed of a special dye that is designed to bond to the surface of a page or paper when heated. This type of Ink is generally used in textiles, fabrics, signage, and paper. It is often vibrant in color but not very durable over time.

How Long Do Printer Inks Last?

The longevity of Printer Ink depends on a number of factors, including storage temperature, the type of Ink being used, and how often the Ink is being used. Generally speaking, lower temperature storage locations and higher quality Inks tend to last longer. Depending on the Ink and storage conditions, a cartridge of Ink can typically last up to six months or more.

What Is Pigment-Based Ink?

Pigment-based inks contain a special pigment that is designed to bond to the pages or surfaces of a print or photograph when heated. This type of Ink is usually more fade and water-resistant than dye-based Inks, making it ideal for archiving photographs or documents.

What Is The Difference Between OEM And Compatible Ink Cartridges?

An OEM, or Original Equipment Manufacturer, Ink Cartridge is made by the same company that made the printer, while a compatible Ink Cartridge is made by a different manufacturer which is compatible with a particular printer model. Generally speaking, OEM cartridges tend to be more expensive and have a longer shelf life than compatible cartridges, but may have fewer features or options.
